I got a new job!! I haven't posted about this because I didn't want to jinx it, but I accepted the offer today, so it is official. The background is that I was supposed to go back to my job at Children's 4 days a week, which has been okay, but a decision was made that all managers will have to work 5 days a week as of Sept. 1st. That really made me re-evaluate my entire job situation. I have a long commute into the city (1 to 1.5 hours ONE WAY), my job is incredibly stressful and demanding, and honestly, I didn't like it that much. It is a great hospital, and I love my staff, but I don't really like the JOB. I didn't enjoy being the boss, supervising a staff a 50 people and having to be the bad guy and putting out fires all day long. I also didn't like carrying a pager and being on call 24 hours a day. They were all things that I could handle before Mary Francis was born, but as the Johnson & Johnson commercial says "Having a baby changes everything." My priorities are just different. So, when I found out I would not be able to continue doing 4 days a week, I started looking for a new job. And I found a great one!
I'll be working for the North Shore Physicians Group as the Clinical Best Practice Program Manager. The title really tells you nothing about the job. I will be rolling out all of the patient safety and quality initiatives to the 18 practices in the physicians' group. It is mostly primary care, family practice, a few OB/GYNs, and a few specialty practices. The offices are scattered around the North Shore, but none are more than about 10 miles from our house. I'll also be responsible for doing a lot of education with the staff in the offices and implementing a big primary care redesign project to get all of the offices certified as Medical Homes. Things that are awesome about the job:
- I will be working 4 days a week
- The office is 10 minutes from our house - no commute!
- Half of my time will be spent out in the practices, which will give me flexibility with my time
- I'll be teaching again
- The goals of my role are very in line with the new health care reform legislation, which if you know me at all, you know is near and dear to me
- The people are awesome, smart and laid back
- Reputable organization
I am so excited and I know I will be happier in this job. The job will still be stimulation, interesting and challenging and keep me on the career path that I want, but this will let me be a better mother and wife and give me the work-life balance that I never could have had at my old job. Hurray!! My last day at my current job is June 18th and I start the new job on June 28th.
Beautiful flowers and champagne from my wonderful, supportive husband to celebrate :)
Yay! So excited for you that you found something that will (likely) make you happier. Happy mommy = happy family. :)
