Okay, so Irene was actually a tropical storm by the time she hit us today. We got a lot of wind and some rain, but all in all, we were not that impressed this morning. We lost power for about 2 minutes, but it came back on quickly. Honestly, it kind of felt like a let-down after all of the storm hype. I guess we will save all of that bottled water and canned food for the next Nor'easter.
This afternoon, we decided to go check things out. We were suffering from a bad case of cabin fever - MFG had a fever and was very pitiful yesterday; with that and the storm today I literally had not left the house in almost 48 hours. And once we left the cozy cocoon of our house, we realized that some of our neighbors did not fare as well as we did.
Downed power lines one street over. . . Everyone on Magnolia Road lost power (and as if tonight, still don't have it). Our backdoor neighbors had to tap into one of our outdoor outlets so that their sump pump wouldn't give out and flood their basement.
Next, we headed to Fisherman's Beach, just down the hill from our house. We were surprised to see 4 boats stuck on the beach, rocks, and the pier!
Still pretty windy!
Next, we went to King Beach. The first thing we noticed was tons of debris near the seawall.
Then we saw this couple, searching through the debris. It turns out that this was their boat. A 26 ft cabin cruiser, according to the captain. They said that they watched their boat break free from its mooring, and saw as it was smashed against the seawall. They said that it took less than 15 minutes for the boat to be completely destroyed.
Then, we saw 5 more boats stranded on the beach
Here is some video that Tommy captured in Marblehead earlier today that shows how huge the waves were
We are so thankful that we didn't have any damage or lose power today. Hope that everyone else had the same luck in the storm!
