14 Months Old - Potpourri Post

Mary Francis turned 14 months old today. It is hard to believe how fast time has flown! She is a busy, sassy toddler these days. She is walking (quickly!) all over the house these days and in to everything! She is loving anything that can be opened or emptied . . . drawers, cabinets, baskets, shelves, you name it. She keeps adding more words to her repertoire: I'm going to try to list them here since this blog has basically turned into her baby book!
  • Dada
  • Mama
  • Dog ("dah")
  • Cat ("tat")
  • This ("dis")
  • Baby ("Bay-bay")
  • Ball
  • Up (when she wants to be picked up)
  • All done
  • Uh-oh
  • Whoa! / Wow!
  • Hi
  • No
  • Yes (sounds like "sex" which is hilarious)
  • Francis ("Fah-sis") we think she is trying to say her name
She understands most of what we say. She can point to her nose, mouth, eye, ear and head. If we ask her, "where is the....ball / baby / chicken / cow / etc?" she always goes right to what we asked for and picks it up. It is amazing what a smart little person she has become in 14 months!

I was torn about posting the next item . . . . because it is DISGUSTING. That said, this blog is really only read by friends and family that will likely either a) get a chuckle out of this or b) relate to me feeling like terrible mother because this happened. OK, here goes....

Mary Francis ate a piece of dog poop last Friday. Yes, dog poop. It was a beautiful warm day (see below) and I thought I would let her walk around in the back yard since she has been cooped up inside for months. I know it sounds cliche, but I literally turned my back for 2 seconds to pick something up off the ground and in that 2 seconds, MFG walked 8 feet, squatted down, picked up a piece of dog poop and put it in her mouth.  When I turned around, I saw her munching on something and I thought, " No, surely it's not....." but as I looked closer, she had dog poop smeared all over her face.

I ran inside SCREAMING, " I NEED HELP!" Poor Tommy thought MFG was really hurt. I scooped as much poop as of her mouth as we could, but she ingested most of it. Gross, gross, gross, gross. Did I mention she was laughing hysterically the whole time? Oh, the joys of parenthood.

Here are some random pics to catch up. It's been awhile since I've had a chance to post. We've been busy around here!

This was the temp in my car last Friday (the day of the dog-poop-eating-incident). It was just a tease, though. It has been in to 30s or 40s ever since and it snowed today. : (

We recently "converted" our sunroom into a playroom. So great to keep all of the toys contained in one room!

In a desperate moment of cabin fever, we set up our kiddie beach tent in the new "playroom." It was a big hit!

MFG hung out with her friend Ella last Friday. What a cutie!

 Walking, walking, walking!

Last weekend, we went to into Boston to the aquarium with the Kirbys (Greg, Aubyn, and Ben). Ben and MFG go to daycare together, so they had a blast together at the aquarium.
** Note the BIG bump on her head in these pics. She took a spill into the corner of a baseboard while walking.

After the aquarium, we had lunch with the Kirby's at Legal Sea Foods. (We forget a bib)

Random cuteness

I just like this picture. Our church hosted a concert by an amazing local jazz-vocal group from Berklee College of Music last Sunday afternoon as a fundraiser. I took Mary Francis (who loved the music!) but she got a little restless, so we went to the nursery room for a few minutes so she could run around and get the wiggles out. I snapped this photo with my iPhone.
Hope everyone is having a great week!
